The dormitory building is the first of its kind in the country to be built for women workers in the EPZ. The multi-storey residential building accommodates 1,800 women. The building was inaugurated on Thursday.

The EPZ was set up in the vicinity of Mongla port in 1998 on a far-sighted decision of the Prime Minister to bring success to the socio-economic development of the country.

BEPZA authorities have constructed dormitories on 3.8 acres of land at a cost of Taka 26 crore 27 lakh to alleviate the housing crisis of women workers working in EPZ.

 It was inaugurated at noon on Thursday by BEPZA Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman to address the housing problem of women workers.

The 33rd meeting of the BEPZA Government Board chaired by EPZ decided to build a dormitory cum hostel for the workers working in the industrial establishments or to live alone with their families.
